I'm not looking for something real hot, this is a driver and farm truck. Good low-end and mid-range power for towing and street manners are what I'm after.
My old rig is just a driver and farm truck, although it doesn't have a problem shutting down the local ricers!
I've got an older Performer 390, 670 Street Avenger and a Pertronix unit on the ol' girl right now; I plan on headers soon as my stock log manifolds have a couple pretty long cracks on each and a MSD 6 when finances permit. Crane 343901 looks pretty good to me. Thanks, gtex!
I tried the Dynomax before and they were all trouble for me. I decided after that to just pay the extra to get some quality parts.
That's a nice combination. It may be a bit much for a 352, but shouldn't cause any real running problems. If you really want to wake it up. Convert it to a 390 later and improve the flow on the heads, bigger valves or use something like the Edelbrock Heads.
Those are really nice looking headers, and Tri-Y's to boot! I've looked at the FPA's before and I'm a firm believer that you have to pay for quality; I just can't justify the price right now, either for those or an MSD box.
Eventually, I'd like to build up a 390 or possibly a stroker motor, but that's a couple years down the road. I thought the combo might be too much for a 352 as well, but it runs much better than I would have expected and gets fair economy too (11-12mpg highway @ 55 or under...unless I start hoggin' on it, drops to 7-9 real quick). It is torquey enough that I've been using it to pull stumps this week and it has no problem doing that, just have to add 800lbs in the bed. It runs a little rich, but not so much that I'm going to worry about it. All in all, it's a pretty nice $400 pickup.
I must agree, that i'm surprised with the 352 power in my 67. I know it's old and needs a lot of love, but it will still chirp the tires going in 2nd gear and drive.
The good thing about most of the mods, even if overkill, they will work nicely later when you make other upgrades like a longer stroke.
