Need to replace the front struts on my girlfriends 98 Mountaineer. They don't look too hard to change. I am wondering if anyone has done them, and which strut is a good replacement? I am running Rancho's on my F150 and am happy. But, I think the rancho's may be a little overkill for the Mountaineer...
Moog builds a OEM replacement strut assembly httphttp://www.aftermarketsuspension...om/moog-st8611. These are not difficult to install. All you have to do is remove the lower bolt in the control arm and 2-3 nuts at the top mount. Then have an alignment done to it.

That part number is not for a 98 Mountaineer. 98 Mountaineers don't have "struts" per se, they have shocks. A strut is what you linked to, where the spring and shock are all one assembly. A shock is just the damper, and the spring is separate. And you don't need an alignment when replacing shocks on a 98 Mountaineer.
I was looking at the mid range Monroe's from my local O'reilley's. This is a spare vehicle for us. We use it to travel up to Lake Tahoe on occasion. It's only seeing about 3k miles a year.
It looks like 2 bottom bolts and one on the top. I will have an alignment done anyway as it is pulling to the right pretty good.
