Well I've heard tell that if there aint no picture ,it didn't happen. So here's the pics. Now I need to study up on rockers, steam holes, heat connectors or crossovers whatever they are, gaskets , how to clay for valve clearance, do I need the push rod separators, and stuff like that. Im really going to enjoy this, and yes Ill be asking questions as usual. Oh yeah they are Edelbrock 60329s idle to 5500 power band. Oops I forgot the pics here they are.
Jim,
Nice score.
Those are 1.90" valve heads so no need to clay. Yes you need the guide plates unless you run stock rockers which you don't do. You need hardened push rods and a push rod length checker, I can send you one to use (I know you will send it back).
It is a straight forward swap but if any questions ask away.
Thanks guys I've learned a lot from this thread already .. Roy, no I already have the matching cam, spring/ lifter kit, along with matching intake, carb, & timing chain. Dave good to hear ,I got the smaller valves in hopes that they would clear. Would 1-6-1 rockers make a difference? EBEAR so I just leave the guide plates as is .Got it, thank you. I do have the hardened Comp CAM 7831-16 pushrods that I bought with the cam. I will need to check length though. TOBY and DENNY thanks for the kind words. All you guys rock, I hadn't even asked a question yet and already have most of them answered already. Any pros or cons on rockers, this is a low RPM motor. 0 to 5500 rpm.
I built more or less the same heads . What engine ? what compression ? roller ? cam very important . I am running a 351 w stroker (408 ) 202 heads and a 512 lift roller cam and have no issues on clearance but 9.5 compression . No reason not to do roller rockers stock ratio ( 1.6 ) . If your guide plates are adjustable then you need to look up the proper procedure to center the pushrods . Is your block decked ? You can't go wrong by checking clearance but with 194's and no domed pistons you should be good .
.
I was thinking of using these rockers, https://www.summitracing.com/parts/t...0/applications, does anyone have any pros/cons on these, or suggestions for something different. I ordered a push rod measurer, so ill wait till I find the proper length b4 ordering them. All other items are ordered.
Nothing wrong with those rockers for you Jimmy. The push rod checker is nice to have (and fairly cheap) but if you only use it once. Stuff like that can be borrowed and returned so my offer still stands to send you mine if you like. Heck you bight be able to buy a cup of coffee with the money.
Thank you Dave, I looked at hundreds of rockers and just had no idea, long slot, short slot, full roller, roller tip only etc ,etc, on and on. I finally found these but wanted to be sure. Heck the p/s checker would have cost as much to ship back and forth as what it cost, but thank you very much for your generous offer to loan me one. As always its my friends at FTE that point me in the right direction
Very nice Jimmy...next year when you come to SoCal for the Western Nationals you can tour the Edelbrock facility where those beauties came to life! You are coming this year right?
