6.0 Engine Noise

Hi all. Took the 6.0 on a trip towing our 4500lb 26' travel trailer. She's been running great, but just started making a noise. It was a rattle that was pretty sparse when I first noted it, but then became much more frequent. For the hell of it, at the next fuel stop (soonest I was able to pull off) I scanned for codes and saw a cylinder 6 balance/contribution code. Sweet. Immediately after that, the engine idled noticeably rougher, and felt like nearly a complete miss for a moment at idle in gear. The idle would be rough for a few seconds, then the engine pitch would change slightly and it'd be perfectly smooth for a few seconds. That cycle would repeat. I'm assuming the ECU was attempting to smooth it out what it could. The shaking etc just noted all occurred during the few minutes sitting at a fuel station after fueling.

Just to see how it acted, I took it down the road (30mph speed limit), and soon as your give it any fuel, it smooths right out. Power and smoothness feel normal. Noticing this, I took it up to 60 on the highway for a moment, noted the noise above being more common, and pulled back off. The idle was now smooth all the time. Didn't feel as though it had a miss or contribution issue at all any longer. Cleared codes, but the cyl6 contribution instantly came back.

A few hundred miles earlier, I had run B5-B20 for the first time, as it was the only thing any station had in the area and it was that or run out. I have heard it'll clean the fuel system out a bit and can clog filters. I had a new set in the truck, so figured I'd change them if needed. At this point, I went ahead and changed them. Cleared codes, fired it up, and the contribution code is gone. Engine runs and idles smooth and power is normal. Still have the noise while driving though, which greatly concerns me.

Here is a link to a video I uploaded, so hopefully you guys can hear it:

It's most notable under light/medium throttle application, and mostly if not entirely goes away under heavy throttle. It doesn't make it at idle, or when revving the motor out of gear while sitting still. So is this an injector making that racket? I lean to an injector, as the frequency seems too fast to be an engine or valve train knock/noise, but I'm not sure. I'd also expect an engine or valve train noise to be constant, not coming and going, and I'd think those noises would become more pronounced under load, not less. Idk though, still new to the 6.0 game. Hopefully someone here has heard it before and can give me some advise. Thanks again.

Nate,

Your probably not getting much responce as depending on the audio capabilities of the device members are using they can or cannot hear the frequency of the sound your worried about.

On my iPad, I think I hear a tapping. On my desktop, nothing.
