I just put in the standard size plug on my truck which i had ordered months ago for my build up. I still had oil leaking around the threads with a nylon washer.... I just put in a +1 oversize yesterday with nylon washer and no leaky........
jakeharp. Very interesing! I learn new things every day. I thought bad threads just made it difficult to get enough pressure on the gasket to seal.
I never thought the threads could seal the engine oil from leaking. (Sorry, this was hard to explain with my bad english )
PapaBearYuma. Really a nice story!! I know most Scandinavians settled in Minnesota but a lot of them settled in northwest like your forefathers. And now there is some swedish blood in the AZ desert. I have to admit I would love to have your climate! Sorry for beeing totally off-topic ! ! !
I like the metal-captured oring gaskets - I've had nylon ones crack without tightening too much, even (almost) lost a plug once. Close as I can figure, the nylon cracked when it was tightened, eventually popped out. When I caught it, the plug was backed almost halfway out, with NO gasket on it. Not something that's going to happen very often, but it scared me enough to quit using them.
