Truck runs very rich. When on throttle you can see the black tint of excess fuel. I have codes for my egr solenoid but have for quite a while, it's in the books to get into. No codes for fuel pressure, O2 sensor, etc.

heard that it may be related to fuel pressure regulator. How would I test the regulaor because my understanding is it's vacuum operated. Current plan is to replace egr valve n solenoid, O2 sensor, and possibly regulator. Just would like a verification of how to test regulaor. Truck runs great, just dump fuel. Lucky to have been getting 7-8 mpg before parked.

Remove the vacuum line on the fuel pressure regulator and see if fuel is present.

If the EGR valve is sticking open, it can cause erratic idle, excessive fuel consumption.

Sound like the fuel pressure regulator went bad.

To test remove vacuum hose with engine idling and see if fuel comes out.

I have noticed idle is a little off. Tends to die out rarely. Mainly when I put In reverse, but not often. Rained out for today, won't be able to test today but am glad to know a way to test the regulator.
