Hey guys, I'm looking at a couple excursions on Craigslist. One is a 2000 V10 4x4 that is immaculate other than the leather seat being tore. It has been well taken care of. But it has over 260k miles and that scares me a little.
We are going to look at a 00 4x4 with the 7.3 in the morning that has 340k. It is supposed to be fleet maintained and has a new transmission.
Should I be looking for lower milage vehicles? The 7.3 ones are bringing big money and I don't want to spend over what I have budgeted. And I'm nervous to buy high milage vehicles. It's going to be a third car basically only used for family vacations and such..
We adopted 6 boys and Need one soon. We had a 00 v10 a few years back and I wish I would have kept it..
I sold my last v10 ex with 230k. 260k is a little high, but new motors are not horribly expensive if the rest of the truck is in good condition. Generally in my opinion- 300k is about the top end of the average v10 motor. Will some see more? Do many see less? Yes.
As for the 7.3- if it's fleet maintained they should have supporting paperwork for a lot of stuff done with the vehicle. Ask for paperwork. Be ready to spend money fairly shortly on repairs - you never know at 340k what wear items are getting ready to go- even if the motor is in great shape.
I don't know the budget you have or your personal needs- so it's hard to speculate on price.
I'd say that v10 is honestly not worth more than 3k-3500 range- depending on stuff like tires, brakes etc. The 7.3, 7k range is probably appropriate.

Thanks for the quick reply, Sir.
The v10 one has new Michelin tires, new ball joints, new steering box, etc. He's asking 8k
The 7.3 has new firsetones and a newer transmission installed last year. He says he has all the records on it. Just the milage scares me. It's 9950.00 obo
I want to be under 14k for a 7.3 if possible. Or a nice low milage v10. Hard to find either.. lol
Where are you located? Those prices are beyond bad in my eyes..
I can buy a v10 limited for $3500-4k around here fairly often, I sold mine for $4500, with brand new tires on it. That's the average.
10k on a 7.3 with 340k.. That's a bit steep, You can generally pick up some 200k-250k range ones for 12-14k fairly often. There's a 7.3 with 270k for 8700 not far from here too..

I'm in East Tn. There's only 4 excursions total on our Craigslist, and 6 within 75 miles from me on Autotrader.
I just sold a 00 7.3 with 262k miles on the ticker (2wd though) for a whopping $6500.
Start looking at craigslist in other areas, I'm up here in Colorado, and pricing is much better it seems... maybe I need to buy them up and haul them down south..
I just bought a 2000 V10 limited 168k miles new tires in good shape, 4x4, exhaust. only real issue is paint fade on hood and roof. But mechanically sound. I paid $4700.
There's a 2000 with the 7.3, 4x4, Limited, in very nice condition up in Denver right now for $8750, and frankly if it's as described in his ad- it's a steal.
