I bought a FORD stereo, tape & CD unit at a rummage sale for $2. last summer.
The date of mfg. is 2001. I bought the harness with plugs at my local B.Y.
With a million thin, color coded wires> The plan is to mount it on the hump under the dash on my 59 Galaxie soft top. I would place a pair of book shelf speakers in the huge trunk with similar era speakers from an Explorer mounted inside.
Questions: Where does the 12 volt cable connect & what is the color code
for all of the thin wires?
Do you have any idea what the stereo came out of? Do you know if this system has the internal amplifier or external amplifier with subwoofer?
I can pull up the wiring diagrams for 2000-2002 Ford stereos, but would need an idea what model it came out of to save time. Since you posted in the Explorer forum, are you suggesting the harness you got was from an Explorer and fit?
Note the column I placed the request for info in. It was removed from an 01 Explorer.
It's a twin to the stereo in my 03 Explorer. It sounds great with just the 4 speakers.
If this 01 unit had a sub woofer, I assume that it would also have an external amp. also.
The plan includes removing all 4 door speakers from a B.Y. Explorer & installing them
in pairs in bookshelf enclosures.
If you send me a Private Message with the request AND an e-mail address for you, I'll send you PDFs of the wiring diagrams for the radio systems available for the 2001 Explorer model year.
WOW ! Prior to printing, I'll check all of the numbers on the back of it.
I did not recognize all of the color codes.
Thanks much. What I should do is test it in the dash of my 03 Explorer
before investing in speakers and enclosures.
