My tachometer has no reading at all, it might have happened after I was trying to find a blown fuse and was pulling them out, while the truck was running. I have switched out both the tach itself and the pickup sensor on the injection pump. I also followed the wires from the sensor to the firewall and they look fine. Any suggestions?
Appreciate the links. On them it shows that the 640 wire also has to do with the seatbelt buzzer, which I noticed has also stopped working, so maybe I messed up the fuse box just for that area? Or somehow the fuse is bad, but looks fine?
So I changed out fuse 18 and it did the trick, and then about 10min later the tach started being all erratic. Could this be the voltage regulator for the instrument cluster? And is that what I'm pointing to in this pic?
The ICVR does not affect tach function. Since the issue started by messing with the fuse block, I would check there for a bad connection or corroded contact etc.,

Today after school I'll detach the fuse box from the firewall and take a look behind it to make sure everything is plugged in. Any tips? Also, I don't know if it makes a difference, but the tach only gets all weird when the truck is warmed up. I drove it this morning and the tach was fine, but once warm started bouncing.
It's been awhile since I read that thread. I'll have to take the cluster out to see if it has the brown stuff. In the meantime, I took apart a spare 6.9 tach, but after looking at it and the thread, it seems to be the "new" style? If so, I guess I could see if it will work.
I don't exactly know how similar the diesel and gas tachs are, but it has the same circuit board as the gas tach in the linked thread
Swapped the original sensor back in and drove around a bit with the spare tach, and it worked longer than it used to. Put the original cluster back in and drove some more, even going on the freeway and the tach read correctly the whole time. Not sure what happened, but I'll check back after a week of driving to see if the tach keeps working. Here's a pic, hope you guys like my setup. Got real lucky and found a diesel rosewood AC bezel for $120
