Ranger torque splitter noise?

I have been looking at getting a Ranger torque splitter for years .
You always read where people say they are noisy. Noise can be a relative term so I did some testing.
I used a sound meter on my smart phone to test my trucks and see how "loud" they are in the cab at 60 mph.

81 f-250 4x4; 88 decibels windows shut.
98 Ranger ; 79 decibels with windows shut
98 Ranger ; 87 decibels windows open
81 f-250 ; 91 decibels , 4x4 low range, high gear, 30 mph
81 f-250; 93 decbels, 4x4 low range high gear 3000 rpm , 35 mph

All test performed at 60 mph , 2200 rpm, no radio , windows up , unless otherwise noted. Ranger stock exhaust, f-250 flowmaster to the rear tire.

Question is : How loud is the Ranger Torque splitter?

Thanks in advance ron...................

Anyone that has one willing to do a decibel test similar to my test?

I think you can hear a low pitched gear whine in this video. I might be from the Ranger.

On edit: I listened to it again, I think the noise I hear is tire noise. The Ranger doesn't seem to make any noise. I thought they had quite a whine in the lower gear due to straight cut gears.

But maybe not. No one is mentioning noise.

Again, no one is talking noise.

Thanks for the video and your right it does seem to be not making any loud noises. Video proves that.

This thread says that it is loud https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-splitter.html. Referance # 10 and #12 post. In the last 6 years there may have been improvements to the box also.

But as I said noise is relative and if it is no louder than that video it is very livable for me .
I am swapping out the 460/c6 in my 84 CC dually and putting a modded 300. t-18 with hopefully a RTS . It will be used as a race car hauler so it will see mixed Hyw and rural roads . 70 mph for couple hours sometimes and then 30 -50 mph for hours sometimes. Little hilly in NW sc and NC. Really need the splitter for that t-18 and 4.10 gear. I would like to be able have a conversation while riding to .

Anyway still looking for a decibel reading if anyone can take one. .....ron

What was not said is what flooring each truck had when testing.
Rubber over metal floor will be louder than padding & rug over the same metal floor.

[hijack] have you driven the truck with the 300 and 4.10 pulling anything yet?
I am putting together a 81 flare side with 300/T18 to use some times as needed to pull my car trailer and wonder how it will do even with the 2.75 rear gear.[/hi jack]

FWIW I would go with a ZF 5 speed, and maybe add a Gear Vendors after that for what you are doing. Sure it's 2 or 3 times the cost, but I digress....

Both trucks have carpet in them with floor mats .

I have not driven the dually yet with the 300,4.10. The engine is in my 81 f-250 sc 4x4. t-19, 3.54, . The f250 does a good job but switching to the f350 will bring a more comfy ride , more room and better pulling experience.

I had this same engine in a 69 f100 with a t-18 , 2.47 and 31x10 tires. I had a 390 in it before and it didnt mind the 2.47, but the 300 didnt like it for pulling , real lazy around the 50-65 mph. So switched to a 3.25 and that was much better. ............ron

I guess to update this thread. Finally got this swap done, though not finished, and did some testing on my way to church this am.

84 f-350 300/t-18, Ranger torque splitter OD, 4.11 , 235/85r16 tires. CC, 4x2, DRW.

Windows rolled up ,60 mph, 4th gear , splitter direct. 81 decibels, calculated 2600 rpm.
2nd test. :everything same except splitter in OD and rpm 1900. 82-83 decibels.
The splitter does make a whine but its not that noticeable , just a mechanical whine. Alot less than a rearend whine. About like the ford power steering whine.
