01 7.3 project questions
im not working on a truck but have just bought a 7.3 psd out of a wrecked 01 f250. This diesel is going to go on a tractor im building for a fun project. I am fully expecting to have to fabricate a bellhousing to bolt the diesel engine to the tractor transmission but thought id ask if one existed to save me some work.
From what i have read so far the bellhousing from a 6.9 idi will bolt up to the 7.3 psd, but using the stock psd flywheel and clutch will the 7.3 psd or the 6.9 starter work? I wish the bellhousing from a zf6 would seperate from the transmission and make my project easier.
Any input would appreciated.

Don't have the answers for you, but if you're trying to bolt up an 8 speed (or more) transmission from a tractor, you're likely going to have to make an adapter anyway right?
Farm tractor is what we're talking about? Does the 7.3 have enough low end torque to work with the gearing on a standard tractor or have you already figured the gearing part out?

It a 37' farmall f20 farm tractor. The original engine was like 15 hp and low torque with 4- speed transmission. Top speed is like 10 mph. Lol
The factory setup was an engine and bell housing bolted together and a small drive shaft from bell housing to transmission. My plans are to find a useable bell housing and modify it to hold a output shaft bearing and fabricate a drive shaft to go from clutch to the tractors transmission.
Im guessing im going to have to fabricate the entire bell housing but it will be fun. I like making something from nothing. This tractor will be nothing more then a toy for bragging rights possibly a far and few between weekend pulling tractor. Maybe pull a float in a parade once a year.
There is a bunch of these tractors out there with gas v8's and other odd ball engines but i cannot find one with a powerstroke. So to me it is a challange to build one.
