Need Some Advice Before Going In

2001 Excursion 7.3 Diesel

I recently rebuilt the fuel bowl using parts from Diesel O Rings (great folks, FAST shipping, quality stuff) which stopped that leak. I cranked the truck to find that I had a secondary leak. From best I can tell, it is from the passenger side fuel line at the retaining tab.

The leak was fairly substantial and soaked the area under the truck in just under a minute.

I have watched the video on replacing the line (seems pretty straightforward) and wanted to ask if there was anything else that I should know about, have on hand, or replace while I was in that area. Anything prone to breakage? Anything else readily accessible and needing replacement after 16 years? Hope to grab the line from my local Ford dealer so I can get this done while off for Thanksgiving. Thank you in advance.

Did you close the drain valve? Just making sure, seems kind of odd to have such a big leak after you repaired the fuel bowl. I also think if it was leaking from the line at the tab, you would have a clean spot there. Can you actually see it leak while it's running?

I checked everything multiple times before installing and then again after. Everything up top was dry with the truck running. It was only when I got down to shut the truck down that I noticed the ground was covered in fuel. So I walked away and left it till today. I had my wife crank the truck while I was under the hood and still couldn't see any leaks. I checked the ground again and only a few drops now. It looks like the leak has slowed or stopped. Does this sound normal?

Take that engine hoist point out while you are in there and put it on a shelf. It is in the way of anything you may do with the downpipe, turbo and the fuel line replacement itself. Mine are both sitting on the shelf (driver and passenger side lift points). When I replaced my line, I did NOT put it back in that clamp. No problems since (~60k miles).
