I only did the drivers side of my engine because that's all the time I had when I did it. I'll get to the passenger side in the spring when the weather is better. Still starts fine and no miss without it unplugged in the teens.
Three full tank refills after shimming, unplugged cold starts great down to lower teens! No miss!
Still calculating MPG, but can see a slight improvement city (1 MPG) and better highway (3 MPG). Still not back to the MPG she gave as a virgin - but hey, we're both gettin' old!
Thanks for the update on that. I've had enough relief from my cold miss since changing to 0w40 oil that I've simply been continuing to postpone the work. I have the shim kit and the new o-rings... just biding my time right now.

In 4-5 more weeks Winter will be over for us ! But I must admit, I have several items I need to do to the old truck, just haven't got around to doing it
Met a guy while getting fuel in Centre, AL last week with a twin to my 2001 PSD, only his had 138,000 miles.... damn... he wouldn't trade !
Yeah, thanks for the update, Horseman... Like Pete, mines on the shelf as well. Along with the oring kit, trucks' doing good. But, come summer, will be towing often, so I need to get my ***** out of the wifes' purse and just do this already

Yeah, In the recent 4-6 weeks, I've been seeing the 7.3's showing up more on our local CL, and some of them with good low mileages. They're just priced too high for me to consider "upgrading" to a lower mileage truck with 4WD. And then... I already KNOW the truck I have and everything I've done to it through the past 10 years, and am not thrilled with the thought of starting over again. So, I might just end up doing the 4WD conversion on my own one day with an '05 upgraded front end system, but it's also going to cost me a transmission along with it for the 4WD. If my existing 2WD transmission fails before then, I think I'll go ahead and replace it with a 4WD unit just so that conversion can be an easier option for me later.
Just curious, How long did it take you per injector? roughly. About to do the poppet shims, but if it isn't too time conduming, I may consider the rebuild.

You don't have to pull the injectors out to place the shims... they go under the square top of injector. You spend more time getting the valve covers off, than placing shims on the injectors. Maybe 5-10 minutes per injector for shims, depending mostly on whether you using manual tools or power. Its an easy fix, I did mine 09/16... no complaints over the past 30,000miles.
If you do o-rings at the same time, though, it is more involved and takes longer. THEN, if you decide to get really proactive and replace the cups.... well, it's really a much bigger job.
Yeah, I did the injector cups and GPs a couple of years ago. That was fun. LOL.
Planning on doing the shim kit this weekend. Was just curious about the time difference between doing the shimming and the total rebuild
