Perhaps a dopey question, but here goes: Is anyone aware of any downside to using (enabling) the Exhaust Brake (aka 'Jake' Brake) all the time?
I ask since there is a switch to turn this on and off, and I wonder why. My experience driving fire trucks in a previous life was that the Jake Brake was always enabled (I do not recall there being any way to turn it off).
I suppose that on icy roads, it is probably a good idea to not have it on, but that is all I could come up with. Am I missing something?
There has been some discussion about this on the forums. Some turn it on and others leave it off. I leave it off as it i believe it is like TCS, you have to press the button each time you do a key on. The 2015 diesel supplement manual does not give any warnings about when to use or not use it or turning it on or off.
Maybe some others will chime in that live in an area similar to you.
I use it whenever driving in the mountains. I first set the CC and then the brake. Truck stays within 4 mph of setting wether climbing or descending. I also have the T/H on. It's there to use not to take up an extra button.
