I have a 2014 XL package. Bought it new. Have gone out in morning a few times now to a dead battery. (left parking lights on again dummy). why don't these newer trucks have an auto disconnect to the battery when this happens. Or do you have to have the auto headlights to have this option? Thanks
Does not the XL have a door chime for when you shut the ignition off and open the door? Has someone defeated/switched off your door chime?
My XLT has the auto headlight switch position. I've never, ever used it. Never yet managed to leave my truck lights on. I just don't understand this problem.
I've not had a car or truck in the last decade that wouldn't shut the lights off after a period of time. All of my trucks have been XLTs though...perhaps XL trucks of that year didn't?

Pretty easy problem to understand. Driver is human and forgets to turn off the switch, which turns out to be a $100 mistake when he needs to replace the battery later on. Most cars and trucks in this era are programmed to help the guy out and shut it off if he forgets. My wife's '07 Kia Optima does this, as well as every Ford product I've owned in over a decade, so I'm a bit surprised the OP's truck doesn't.
My 2016 250 XL only has the chime, no auto shut off for battery levels. All other vehicles i have had in the past starting with my 2001 Explorer Sport had this feature. I cannot recall if all had auto headlamps (My 2003 Thunderbird does, as did the past couple of Lincolns, and I remember the 03 Sport Trac as having it. but the 01 Expolorer, 03 Focus, and a couple of others, i just don't recall.)
I might add, that i noticed that on all my other cars the interior lights would "fade" out, where as my 250 XL it's more abrupt, like they just switch off.
That's my problem, I leave the keys in the truck 95% of the time. (When its parked in my locked shop only) Its chimes all the time when keys are left in, lights on etc. So yeah, I hear the chimes, as I do everyday. I just would think a truck that has HILL ASSIST-TRACTION CONTROLL-ABS- for people that can`t drive that they would have something for the forgetful people also. Thanks guys, just have to remember to take my memory pill.
So do what I do, if you leave the keys in the truck, remove them and hang them on the turn signal or keep them in the visor. Your chime will sound when the door is open and let you know that the lights are on. either that or learn to check everything before you get out of the truck. What did you do before auto headlights and all the cool little gadgets? You made sure everything was turned off. I still get on my wife about leaving the radio and blower on when she shuts her car off, it's just that much more pull on the system when you go to restart the car.
I have an XL and its got lots of nannies. One time I had the key in the ignition and when I hit the door lock they quickly unlocked it.
The hill assist is a trip. I was waiting to pull out on an incline and the traffic was so bad I was stuck there for a while. Without looking down I thought damn I must be in park but no I was in drive.
You can buy the fog light kit, which I'm planning to do. It will come with a new headlight switch with the auto headlight feature. The only catch is, for the auto headlights to work, you will have to take it to the dealer to get programmed. You may also have to add the light sensor, not real sure. I read a thread on here somewhere about the light sensor, it's not a big deal. I'm not fulling with the auto headlights, I've had them before and never used them.
