Does the straight defrost setting require the air conditioning system to be in working order or will the defrost still work if I mount a bypass pulley and then change the ac compressor in a couple weeks?

it will still work once the engine is warmed up, just not as good as it would with working AC.
remember, cars and trucks usually did not have AC before the late 70's and the defrosters still worked.

That's what I was thinking. So it will not harm anything to use a bypass for a couple weeks?

nope. just try to seal the AC lines as good as you can once you remove the compressor. you really do not want any moisture getting in the system.

Will do. Thanks. I appreciate the help. I have all my parts but I dont have time at the moment to tackle a job I haven't had to do before. Thanks again.

When I bought by 94 about a year ago it had no A/C compressor and a bypass pulley installed. The defrost worked fine. The only thing is that the A/C helps to dry the air so without it you might find that the defrost operation can take a little longer.
