Hey yall. first post here. hope im doin this right. ive been having some issues with the glow plugs in my 6.9idi. a year ago, i replaced the autolite plugs with motorcraft. a year later, they are already pitted with high resistance. i came to the conclusion that i had to replace the glow plug control switch...not sure how i got there, but i did. if any of you have insight into this problem, let me know, cause its an expensive part and i havent put it in yet. anyway, as i was going to replace it, i pulled the plug off the top, where it connects to the wiring harness and noticed that one of the sockets where the control switch pins connect does not have a metal insert. is this how its supposed to look? or do i need to replace the wiring harness as well?...sorry, i think the picture might be huge, but i dont know how to make it smaller...

 

That's normal, that prong isn't used.

Yes, that's how it gets its engine temperature reading.
