Questions

Hello Friends,

Because 1951 Ford pickups were produced with a 6-volt electric system, when cars were already produced with 12 volts.

Does anyone know how to respond?

Most of the Ford line went to 12V in 1956.

Not every car manufacturer made the same changes in the same timeframe as others. There were design/technology leaders and followers, no different than any industry with many producers. Ford wasn't been a particularly strong change leader for much of its existance. It has had several instances were it showed well (the Model T, early V8 engines, the Mustang, and a bunch that are not comming immediately to mind) and other cases where less than stellar performance was displayed (conversion from mechanical brakes, converson from the flathead, 12 volt system adoption, and add your own). All of those changes take financial resources and Ford, like nearly every organization, set priorities as they saw fit. The market place then rendered judgement with its response: acceptance, indifference, or rejection.
