Ok, plan on servicing my 04 F250 5.4 4x4. Want to change the fluids in the front and rear diff and the transfer case.
1- how much fluid does each require?
2- What type, grade and brand should I use "Mobil 1 syn. for all"?
3- any other additives needed, it has a limited slip I believe
1- Rear differential takes just over 3L I believe.
Front takes 2L.
2- Motorcraft 75w-140 synthetic for the rear, and 75w-90 4x4 fluid in the front.
3- Crawl under there and look at the tag on the rear diff. It'll tell you if you have the limited slip. If you do have it, throw in 8oz of friction additive.
Transfer case fluid is simple. Should hold 2L. At the autozone by my house they didn't have motorcraft transfer fluid. They did have Valvoline transfer in stock, so I used that instead.
Thanks guys, I am going to use the Mobil1 for all as I have access to it ubkess it is no good to use./ I believe it already has the Friction modifier in it.
I would put the cheapest 80-90 wt in I could find and cheapest atf in the transfer case. Aside from the limited slip additve why is the front and rear different ( I believe you just curious)
