wb6anp...my tailgate opens while moving both in forward and reverse. I did not test how fast...as in if the truck hits a certain mph and it won't work.....but it will open.
Saw that above, and I answered, Ill have to test it on mine. I read on here that some one tried to do that to hook his 5er and it wouldn't open while moving.
Yeah...I had already typed and saved it...so I went back and edited it. Oops. Yes..I remember someone saying it wouldn't open while moving also...that's why I was curious to test it out.
I can see the advantage to this feature but a little worried also. I tow a 5th wheel so if I'm hooked up and on an angle the tailgate could be released and hit the 5th wheel if your not careful.
Does anyone know if this feature could be disabled?
Well, you do have to press it twice in order for it to open. Kinda hard to "accidently" press it twice... ive yet to have that problem in almost 3 months.
Ok guys...tested it again tonight and the doors have to be unlocked, you only have to press it once and it is set to a certain mph in forward and reverse. About the same speed that the front camera turns off at. But you can definitely be moving forward or backwards and lower the gate. Try it in reverse....kinda cool to watch the camera in the dash moving to the ground as you back up.

I think you may be correct but if it happens only once it could do some damage. Maybe I worry too much .

I have a remote start on my 2001 SD and I programmed to fob to require 2 button presses 1.5 seconds apart. If I carry change or parts or whatever in my pocket with the keys I have been known to start the truck without knowing. Especially true when mowing the lawn. I park a couple of hundred feet from the house and cannot hear the truck: my darling Susie can. Her information can be less than kind over things which annoy her, although somewhat lighthearted when the truck is running and I am reclined in my chair.
At any rate, the double press is a distinct possibility under certain conditions. I would be careful with the fob if connected to something which would interrupt the deployment of the tailgate.

I have set my alarm off on occasion and locked the doors by accident. I usually carry other keys in my pocket. Like you said if your working, especially bending down I think it could happen. The garage door will only be a few inches from the tailgate. I also tow a 5th wheel quite often. I can definitely see the advantage but if it happens at the wrong time it could be costly.
I may look at disabling it. It may be as simple as disconnecting a plug in the tailgate.
The tailgate button inside is easier to mistake for the power pedals button or even the fog lights button. The controls down by the driver's left knee are pretty well hidden. The good news is that the tailgate lowers very slowly, so damage would probably be minimal. The bad news is that it will still do damage.
Ford did not do a great job with ergonomics down near the left knee. The headlight switch is harder to use. The old "pull for fog lamps" worked great, as did the chunky switch. It is hard to distinguish between the four buttons surrounding the headlight switch - fog lights, cargo lights, and rheostat dimmer. Then you have additional switches even lower. I love how they all light up, though.
