Been too long off here, but the truck is running smooth. The lifters will be done in the spring and thats all I see so far this winter. Even in 30 below the truck is toasty inside. Sure cant wait till spring, been a long winter so far.
Glad to hear you got it running good-I had my doubts from the original pictures! That sure cleaned-up nice. Good job!
Did you have the valve cover off? If so, how'd the valves and pushrods look? If things are a bit gummy, you might throw some SeaFoam in there.
Sorry PapaBear and Redline ... I have neglected my own thread for almost two months but yes the valve cover was off and the rockers are positive stop. It was quite gummy but I run a litre of ATF every oil change so far. The blow by is escaping through my temporary breather but I still have to do the compression test. Spring is here finally, the bike is out so it can sit parked a little and I can work on it some more. The ticking is still there, I am hoping it is only a collapsed lifter, sounds like it but I guess I will find more when the compression test is done.
It did clean up well and this weekend I gave it a bath, nice and through like so it looks a lot better than the winter treated it. I sure love it over a Chev 3/4 I had ... both two wheel drive but Grandpas77 never left me stuck this winter ... not even close. It is nice to drive his old unit, AM only on the dial, and quiet no booming sound system, no loud exhaust, just quiet ... I guess I am getting older.
Been two years I abandoned my thread. Before winter a good used engine going in and new front panels, a 5ton truck can make quick work of the front of your truck. Pics coming.
Destroyed the hood and a cheap Rockauto fender. The grille surround also took a beating. But I picked up the same year only standard truck for parts. Slowly piecing her back together.
