I have a 1988 302 in a F-250 4x4, its a 5 spd. When i shift from one gear to another my RPM's jump up. I was told it was the Idle Air Controll Motor. Is this the correct name for the electric motor located right by the throttle body ? Please Help
How low in the RPM range are you shifting? If you shift below 1000 rpm the engine may think it is dying, and think it is at idle and try to compensate for the increased load (shifting).
If it is doing this at highway speeds or cruising speeds, I would check that your return spring for the throttle is strong enough or that the accelerator cable has not streched or binding. This would make your throttle blades not close when you let off the gas and let the engine rev higher between shifts.
