Need help with two issues

OK First, As you can see by my number of posts I'm a newbie. I've been lurking here for about a year looking at improvements/upgrades to do when I can afford then, haven't started any yet.

My truck is a 1997 F-350 XLT Automatic CC Long Bed 4X4 Diesel with approximately 240,000 miles.

The first issue I'm having is that when I'm stopping, pressing the brake pedal, as I slow down to under about 15 MPH there is a loud POP from the left front area. I took my truck to a front end shop and they told me that the POP was the leaf spring slipping sideways about a 1/2 inch and I could put a hose clamp around the spring pack to stop it. Garbage. It only does the popping at slow speed when I'm stopping and will do it either forward or reverse, probably more so in reverse.

The second issue is with my fuel system. My truck has dual tanks, when it sits for a couple of days and is set on the rear tank and I try to start it, it does not get any fuel, I can crank it several times, 7-8 seconds each and there is no diesel smell from the exhaust . I switch to the front tank and start the truck then switch back the rear tank and it runs fine, if it has only been sitting over night it will usually start on the rear tank.

Any and all help and/or ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks Charlie

Welcome charlie!

On that popping I would start by looking at the front spring shackles. The upper small bushing is very likely toast. Either do poly bushings or you can purchase the shakle new with bushing installed already.

On the fuel issue I would check the fuel lines from switcher valve to rear tank for leaks first.

You might check the 2 bolts that hold the fender on, located by the hood hinges. Popping has been reported to be caused by these 2 bolts being loose. But that usually happens while turning, or uneven ground.

Oh thanks, I have forgotten about this and that's what mine does.

OP, Rear tank lines might have a pin hole allowing fuel to drain back or suck air or the selector valve has some trash in it preventing it to close all the way.

Does it happen more with a 1/4 tank? the shower head in the tank has been known to break.

when draining fuel from the filter bowl, is there air in the fuel?
