6.4l wish list

so I started some work and will be pulling the truck apart. want to avoid having to redo the labor and was trying to come up with a gotcha list.

a. moly push rods instead of the stock ones which are prone to bending.
b. senor replacement to stay ahead of those #3 and such sensor errors
c. replace or clean out the EBP sensor which is prone to clogging
d. coolant pump cavitation problem is probally around the corner
e. lifters, these are hard to replace and are prone to grenading or mushrooming
f. I want to do a mod that sprays oil over the new rocker arms I will be installing.
g. the high ilde mod make sense, seems like there is very little oil pressure at normal idle.
h. all body bushing will be replace.
i. I think I have a cracked flex plate and need to pull the tranny to check it. my truck has 87k miles on it, so thinking about sending thr tranny and TC out for rebuild.
j. when I pull the valve covers to do the rocker arms, the re-install has a rotate engine and torque at a specific sequence...might as well pull the injectors and scope the pistons to see if I need a engine rebuild and also seriously think about replacing injectors.
k. the fuel pump is not that costly to replace if you already are replacing lines and such as a result of the rocker arm replacement...might do that as well.
l. lots of turbo problems being reported...makes me want to pull the turbo and throw a rebuild kit in there as well.
m. as previosuly mentioned...im really thinking might as well pull the engine and throw a rebuild kit in it.

truck is going to be parked for a while while its under the knife.

I've been following you and still don't exactly know why your going thru the steps you are. What failed, and did you figure out why or is it a common problem w/6.4's.

We just bought a 08 and I'm trying to learn as much.......I'm a long time 7.3 guy and can snore torque specs. Just curious?!

I have 2 common problems.

a. my flex plate has the infamous c-crack. so need to drop the tranny. which requires dropping the transfer case. with 87K of hard miles by previous owner...maybe I should rebuld the tranny and TC while its out.

b. i also have the in famous rocker arm tip wear. so I have a set of rockers for both sides as well as upgraded push rods. this adventure will require replacing 1 time use fuel lines. theres a speacil torque procedure that is amlmost impossible to do unless you remove either the glow plugs or injectors...so likely it will be the glow plugs since the injectors probally need to ne installed to install the rocker assemble......which brings up the questions....should i pull the injectors and check them out or maybe just replace them....should i pull the heads and pull the lifters...assuming they are not mushroomed...which means I would then have to pull the engine...and if I do that...might as well rebuild it. while this is all apart...also thinking about replacing the fuel pump while most of the one time use lines are out and being replaced.

I can park it for a while and take my time to work on it....

so far, im finding that most nuts are rusted to the point where they strip no matter what fancy grip sockets you have and I have most of them....so it looks like toruch and penetrate spray....and it looks like the exhaust bolts before the cat will have to be cut off.

did I say exhaust bolts...well about that....NYC does emissions testing so I cant do a dpf delate....so I landed a new Dpf and new cat for 600 bucks and Im going to replace my 87k mile dpf and cat. the dpf and cat I have was installed by a dealer on a trade in that did not have one and the new owner removed it and 7 years later got tired of tripping over it and sold it to me.
