Clink Noise

My 1987 F150 has the 5.0 V8. It just started making a clink noise when shifting into reverse, does anyone know what it could be? My mechanic looked at it a week ago right before I bought it and said transmission was fine but needs new fluid cause the fluid is dirty. I mag getting the fluid changed soon. I'm hoping it's just needing new fluid and not a major tranny problem.

Check the u-joints, I don't mean just crawl under and shake it.... Pull the drive shaft and then check the joints... if not loose, check for tight spots when you move the joint.
