Good Afternoon everyone, I have an 88 Ranger with well over 200k miles on it I got off my father in law and he said to warm the truck for 15 minutes first before shifting(which I discovered is true) but my questioning is when I talked with my father about it he suggested the retainer may need to be replaced so i'm looking for a diagram that shows where that is along with the filler and stick. I think it has a TK5 transmission in it but not sure since LMC's VIN number breakdown was vague.

No Ford truck of any year has the TRANS code within the VIN
TRANS code stamped on the 2nd line of the 1957/79 Rating/Warranty Plate, printed on the Certification Label 1980 thru today.
By looking at things, it looks like this was Ford's popular 5sp transmission. However: a diagram showing where the retainer is and filler tube/dip stick is still a mystery. I attempted to find the tube in the engine bay but all I found was the oil stick. Either way it looks like it'll be going to a shop to be fixed since I don't have the tools to pull the transmission.
There is not a fill tube/dip stick on manual transmissions. If memory serves me right there are two screw in plugs. One low to drain the fluid and one high to fill with fluid.
