A 450 chassis cab is derated to 330 hp and less torque than the pickups, is this accomplished via programming, smaller injectors, or some other method? As my trailer is not real heavy (12K max), it may not be a big deal. If I am not satisfied with the power, a tuner may be in the future. On the other hand, if I should get better mileage due to the derating, I would live with it. Anyone shed light on this?
In the older models the CC had single turbos And the pickups had twin turbos. You might spend some time with a parts guy to see if the part numbers are the same for a pickup and cc turbo.
All CC no matter Ram, GM, Ford, have there engine output derated to somewhat around 300 HP. This is directly related to the GVWR. Once your over 14000 you jump into the next EPA vehicle class. Notice how the F450 pickup is ridiculously under rated at exactly 14000 versus a 15000+ for a F450 CC. This is the stay in the class that alows full engine output. Even the F350 CC has a derated engine.
BTW...significant differences between all CC and regulare pickups with straight flat frames, much different strategy wiht springs and ratings.
IMHO..lf you will be hauling heavy on the truck....the CC have much heavier spring setup and payload ratings versus the pickup version, go CC.
If you will be towing and towing heavy, you will be more pleased with the extra power of the pickups all the way up to the F450 which gets you the lower CC gears and still has the full power. It is a pulling beast.
My ordered 450 is a C&C, I am not towing heavy. Will be installing air ride front and back. Went with a 450 for the turning radius and 19.5 rubber. Also due to the straight frame which makes mounting a tow body easier. Previous truck had 275 HP, don't remember the torque, 19.5's and 4.10 axle as well, so I hope the new one with 330 HP and probably as much torque will do as well on hills.

Reason: omission
The only time I have exceeded 82MPH in a truck is with my 1953 Ford C750, I was checking if my calculated top speed was indeed 83, sure enough, it was!

All you needed was some gravity to get you up to speed. I loaded 45K lbs of Ragu spaghetti sauce out of Owensboro, KY for Chattanooga, TN. Didn't know a thing about Monteagle, TN and couldn't see the signs for the 4 mile downgrade due to fog. Glad it cleared up halfway down when the 80 MPH speedometer was all the way around to the backside of the pin at zero. Brakes useless and kicked it out of gear at 90mph to save the engine. Never ever been so scared and so close to dying in my life. I judged the speed to be around 120 mph and having to zig zag through the idiots in the left lane. Too scared to turn into the runout ramps. Got to Chattanooga a few minutes early! K-123 KW with a NTC 400 Cummins. No jake, city brakes (8"), not enough experience, but God must have been my co-pilot that night.
Here is an idiot doing it on purpose (probably empty):

The 83 in my old Ford was on the dead flat, no trailer. I did routinely run out of brakes on Rt 22 south of Altoona PA on certain grades, on a regular run. And this was stopping at the top like I was supposed to. There was one time however Near Uniontown PA I had the choice of headoning car or the ditch Again, low level of experience. There, I hijacked my own thread.
