I hate unexpected expenses

Was supposed to be $120 to put the new Water Pump on.

Now $330 because it needs a new timing chain.

Do it yourself?

I'd rather pay for parts and do it myself than live with a monthly car/truck payment. Do the math.

No where to dump coolant everywhere. The city of Missoula frowns upon it.

The timing chain was super loose, possible it skipped a tooth and that's where all my power went.

The bolts broke off in the timing cover, they're hoping that can just drill them out

Thank God my finances are more in order than they were before, otherwise, I'd be bent over with my pants down at this point.

Good time to put a straight up timing set in it instead of the factory retarded one. Just get one from the parts store off a efi 460. They should be double roller straight up.

I looked it up, and they all cost about 2x as much

Would a jumped timing chain cause it to be harder starting, and less powerful?

Remember it could always be worse...like the motor needing more work (rebuild or head gaskets) and your finances could NOT be more in order.

Hang in there with it, do you trust the shop you took it to? Or are they just getting more $ from you?

I think that if it jumped time it would not even start, let alone run.

I'm hoping it jumped timing, because then I don't need to buy a new carb on top of the $300 I spent getting the 4350 rebuilt. If it only jumped one tooth, it could still run, right?

This shop was recommended to me, and $400 which includes the timing gears and chain, and labor + broken bolts R and R seems reasonable, right?

One tooth..sorry I do not know for sure. The gears and chain come as a set and should not be individually priced.

At least it was recommended and 400 beats 600+ right? That sounds ok for parts labor and labor for broken bolts. That can turn into a nightmare.

Yes it can, and I'm glad. I'm not even dipping into my savings account yet, which makes me proud.

You have to include the $87 I spent on water pump, thermostat and Antifreeze though... They said if it's not done by tonight, then it'll be done Monday... I want my truck back!

You mean that local auto parts stores will not take care of old oil (oil change amount) and some antifreeze?

People are so green around here, that if you get even a little on the ground, someone will be calling the cops. And if you do it on the side of the street like I'd have to, and a cop drives by? You're screwed.
