I have a 2000 Expedition 4x4, and on my truck there are only three drive settings - A4WD, 4x4-Hi and 4x4-Lo
So it's always in A4WD and the A4WD system is constantly monitoring wheel spin and constantly sending at least some torque to all 4 wheels.
Does yours have a 2WD setting and A4WD is engaging while in that?
Only 97 and 98 have the 2WD setting from the factory. Seems kinda silly that Ford removed it for 1999. Pretty sure most competent or halfway literate owners know when to use 4WD correctly by reading the manual.
