Locating Dowel for ZF 5s-42 to 7.3L IDI non turbo

Looking for the locating dowels for a ZF 5S-42 transmission to the block of a 7.3L diesel. It appears that there are two and am curious if there is a source besides the dealer.

Also need two bolts for the adapter plate to the block which are behind the flywheel. Does anyone know the size of these bolts? McMaster is a great source yet I need to know the size of these two bolts.

Any help and info is always appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Go to harbor freight and buy a cheap set of calipers, and a thread gage or a tap set. You can measure the depth and diameter of the dowel pin holes, then order those from McMaster. Measure the thread diameter with the calipers, and the thread pitch with the gage to tell you what size bolt you need. Or, thread the taps in until you find one that fits. It's size will be marked on the side of the shank.

All Ford bellhousing bolts were 7/16-14 until they went metric.

Thank you gentlemen!

In what year did Ford convert to metric? After 89? or before?

Additionally, diesels use 1/2 and not 7/16. Bear with my ignorance but I do not understand. Would you be so kind as to explain.

Thank you.

I'm not sure when they switched completely to metric but upto 97 the bell housing bolts are sae. Ford has been using a mixed match of metric and sae hardware since the 80s if not earlier.

Not sure exactly what your asking but ford must of deemed it was necessary to increase the bolt size on the deisels to 1/2" diameter probably for the additional weight and tourque output of the deisel, that's my best theory on it.

1/2-13 bolts instead of 7/16-14 like everything else.

Not sure what year.
Congress adopted the metric system in 1888.
