Bittersweet indeed. I'm supposed to be able to pick up my 2017 up from the dealer possibly today or tomorrow, so I sat in my driveway cleaning out my 2012 250 last night. It was SAD.. I have enjoyed that truck everyday that I've owned it. It's been my favorite vehicle of all time. The last few days I've driven it and I reflect on what a great vehicle its been. As much as I love the new 2017's if I didn't need a bigger truck to pull my new camper (toys beget toys it would seem), I'd be happy just keeping my 2012 for awhile longer, its been an awesome truck. I am truly excited about the new truck, but I'll miss my faithful old friend.

I guessed that, which now begs the question...can a dealer install those POST purchase. My F 350 did not have them and its how I find my truck in parking lots. I want them, anyone know if my dealer can do????
I asked my dealer and he was not sure as no one had ever asked before...
Don, it is do-able but most dealers won't touch it. Obviously the roof will have to be drilled and this could, but likely won't, cause a paint issue or a water leak issue down the road. Dealers don't want warranty problems. A body shop would probably be willing to do the work. The other problem is whether the harness is in place, or if it would need to be bought and where it plugs in to. Alignment is crucial to making the lights look proper. A perfect template would need to be created and applied.
I installed the sat-nav antenna on my 2012. I did have to cut a hole and run the entire harness. Far simpler than installing the cab clearance lamps. I asked my dealer to do it and they refused for the reasons I outlined above...so I did it myself.
I had the same feeling leaving my old truck behind. Then when I went back to the dealer for some work I saw my old truck getting the final touches before they put her on the used car lot. Made me sad all over again. Then I jumped into my new truck and the sadness was gone.
My wife and I see my old truck on the front line of the dealership each time we drive by... Pretty sure I fell the same, it's like looking at your dog when you leave it at the vet, seems like their eyes say "Where you going, what did I do wrong?"

Ras, no way on those FUGLY square cornered light bars the blend in with nothing, besides I saw some on e bay and the shipping was more than they cost, JUNK...
I was told you can add them post purchase and in fact the OEM lights w/wiring harness runs about $150 or so...
I'm still not comfortable not having the old girl in the driveway. I miss the power too as my 2011 was tuned and deleted. Florit, I went long bed this time because two of my buddies went that way last year and talked me into it. I hauled some big loads of cattle today and it does feel more planted. The adaptive steering makes it easier to get around in the tight places also. I'll ditch the stock tires asap. They gave me $12,500 as trade. At that money I probably should have kept it I guess. These new trucks sure are something though. I love the cameras, the adaptive cruise, the auto dimmers, the seats, the extra room, the list goes on and on. I drove the 2016 gmc Denali and felt claustrophobic. they're small inside even compared to my old truck. The dealer has no problem installing the cab clearance lights. They installed the ones on my 2011 also as at that time they didn't come with both clearance lights and sunroof. they did a great job. I have to say, it's hard to get much work done when every time I stop for fuel or food, someone wants to take pictures or talk about the new truck
When I traded my 2011 f350 diesel in on a f150 platinum
gas job. I felt really bad. Had a tough time leaving it.
it took me a few weeks and never really got over it lol !
When I ordered the 2017 f350 platinum it took me all of three
seconds to drop off the f150.
My 2015 platinum in Auguest when I made the deal on the new baby. I said a quick goodbye!Nice truck
But Ido not miss it!
Gettiing excited wondering when the stork will deliver the new one !
Just couldn't let my '01 7.3 go so I sent her to the hunting camp to pull the tractor to the green fields, in my old age bouncing down the logging road on a tractor just isn't near as fun as it used to be.
When I finally gave up my old 7.3 a couple weeks before my new truck came in, it was tough seeing it drive away, had that thing for 14+ yrs. Did a lot to it, was a fun truck to drive. Unfortunately just last week the trans went out in the truck, don't think it was anything I did as the trans wasn't giving me any signs of trouble and I had just changed the oil in it about 10k miles ago. I have a feeling the new owner was enjoying the newfound power he had at his feet, but he wont admit it.
Anyway, after jumping in my new truck, it makes me forget the old girl, I do miss it some, but this new truck is taking that away fast.

My '01 is sold to a good friend in California so I will know where it is going and hope he enjoys it as well. But, in the last 6 months since ordering I have done brakes on both axles including 2 calipers, contended with water on the PCM until finally replacing windshield, emergency temp repair on transmission cooler lines (Replacements from Rock Auto just arrived, avoiding rust in the eyes as we speak) and I realize the injector pump o rings are leaking and need replacing, muffler seam split open and manifold exhaust leaks, power steering lines leaking (not too bad yet) plus front half of oil pan rusting through (deep part repaired a few years ago with Damian Diesl fiberglass repair bucket kit), slight problem with battery clamps, door seals falling off, recharge A/C once a month plus contend with internal freeze ups due to air/moisture in the system from several years of recharge at home and lots of other niggles. So miss the truck when its' gone, a little, but not for long. Trusted friend and adventurer whose time is due. Best truck I've owned so far, maybe. I loved them all.
