As company trucks I own 3 2016 F350s with the 6.2 and my employees don't treat them gentle, and can't treat them gentle often if they have to get into a bad area, they beat them hard.
They tow hard a lot to.
Get probably more miles in a month than many people will drive their personal trucks in a year.....and not 1 single problem with any of them.
I used to have diesel 1 ton company trucks but they were plagued with issues so I only buy gas pickups now.
I don't know what trim level you are looking at, I bought an xl with the chrome appearance package because I wanted vinyl seats and floors. The options I deemed mandatory are cruise, factory trailer brake controller, and sync so I can use my phone through the radio. I wanted upfitter switches, and this truck didn't have them. It's definitely cheaper to get them from the factory, but they are easy to install yourself. Looking back, I would have ordered a xl truck with 4.30's, the upfitters, cab lights and power windows and locks. I added a keyless entry system that gives me power locks, but it was a pain, and I sure wish I had the lights on the mirrors at night on back roads. You only get the mirror lights with the power windows/locks. Here's a pic of a '16 xl with the chrome package.
Ron, you can add the factory fog lights in your bumper for $175, genuine Ford parts. The kit gives you a new headlight switch with the 'pull for fog lights' option, the daylight sensor for auto headlights, and the fog lights / housings themselves. They actually put out decent light and improve the looks of the truck. To be fair, I believe XL trucks cannot use the auto headlights function without upgrading the ECU. However, you can install the fog lights and switch yourself and they work with no additional programming.
I've also added the upfitter switches myself in the past. About $125 if I recall for the parts, not bad.
I've owned two 6.2L trucks. Its a great motor. The 2012 I owned would briefly "rattle" upon startup...not every time...but unfortunately fairly often. It was not consistent. I eventually traded that for a 2015 6.2L and that engine seemed to do it quite a bit less, but it still would do it. It definitely was valves and lifters noise, because as soon as the oil pressure gauge pegged in the middle, the sound was gone. The theory was if the engine stopped a certain way, the cams could squeeze oil from the small, weak lifters on the ends of the rocker arms. It did sound terrible. Hopefully that is cured by now.
Nevertheless, these are strong engines, and they sound very good at startup and at full throttle. A nice bellow. Good sized exhaust pipe.
Both of my 6.2L trucks were crew cab, 4x4, 3.73 gears. I never felt low on power at any time except pulling steep hills with a heavy trailer. The first truck was a very basic XLT with the simple message center, but the 2015 was fancier and had the 4.2" display which can keep a lifetime average on trip B...mine was 10.9mpg but that did include a fair amount of towing.
For comparison, my 2016 diesel with 3.55 gears, towing the same loads and same mix of driving and towing, achieved a lifetime of 16.1mpg before I traded it. When you factor in the higher cost of diesel, $35 vs $157 oil changes, additives, etc...the diesel really is not ahead much except power.
Even power is funny. In 0-60 runs, the diesel is barely faster than the gas. But loaded with a trailer, it is stunning how much more power the diesel has...
4.30s all the way nuff said...it's a super duty not a prius so mpgs mean nothing to me
None of us want to pay more for fuel than we need to. If the 4.30 is the only gear to get the job done, or brings enough extra power enjoyment to offset the fuel penalty, then yeah, go for it. But to burn extra fuel needlessly is dumb.

Nice looking truck.
Thanks Troverman. I actually have the fog light kit on my Christmas list with the upfitter switches for my wife and kids to get me. Do you have a link for the lights at that price? Cheapest I have found is around 250. I've got lots of plans for the truck, but it seems it's been one unexpected financial expense after the other for the last 6 months that has prevented me from buying much.

Hmm. I've done some checking and it looks like the lights in the price range I mentioned were only for XLT trucks without them. That's what mine was. I bought from Fairway Ford online. Maybe the difference is that the XL does not already have the harnesses? That is included in the kt?
Not sure, it's probably the harness's, and i think the brackets are different. Not interested in the auto headlights anyway, had them before and never used them.

I think what he is saying Troverman is that you don't buy a Super Duty if you are super conscious about fuel mileage. Yes, we all want the best we can get but when I ordered mine with the 4.30's, fuel mileage was not at the top of my decision criteria.

Brackets are identical for certain. You remove those plastic pieces and the new lights come with the brackets built in. They just bolt in.
On my XLT, laying under the truck you could see both harnesses to the lights with blanks in the plugs tucked under the radiator brace.
They are pretty solid trucks. I just rolled 44,000 trouble free miles in my 2015. The 6.2L is well suited for the F250. Couldn't tell you if I would like the 430s better or not, I'm perfectly happy with the 373s.

The 6.2 and mpgs is a widely discussed topic here, and the opinions will range. The one thing I know is that the gearing vs tire size vs. driving habits/style is what matters when comparing numbers on a 6.2. I also know that the common idea of 4.30's leading to a sacrifice in mpgs is not always true.
Just filled up again today, town mpg tank of 12.58. after 2000 miles, I am averaging 10- 15% increase over my last 6.2 which had 3.73's. But I drive town and haul stuff all the time, along with towing my CTL.
I've often thought about the mpg sacrifice I make with the gas SD. It is really hard to beat an EcoBoost F1 if the 1/2ton will get you by.

The XLT kit will work on an XL that has the power windows/locks. For the auto headlight feature to work correctly, the light sensor will have to be enabled in the BCM. If your XL does not have power windows/locks the you will need the more expensive XL kit since it comes with the needed power junction block.
I added the fog lights to my 2016 XL with power equipment group a month ago. With FORScan I enabled the light sensor and DRL's myself. I also disabled the annoying seat belt chime.
EDIT: Auto Headlights. If the light sensor is not enabled, the headlight will always be on in the auto setting on the switch.

That's awesome!! Thanks guys! I'm hearing terrible things about mileage being 6-8 MPG in town. That's nuts!! Wambo, what's your mileage even though you have a 350
12.2 MPG using pump 87 with the (Exxon) corporate mix of EtOH.
I have never reset the mileage computer, so this is a lifetime average, with about 16k miles so far. Mix of in town and highway. Lariat 4x4 crew cab short bed with factory 20" rims and the 3.73 as noted earlier. No add-ons that might affect aero. Generally, our highways are 55 MPH, so I drive between 65 and 70.
I drive the Ford fairly gently. I have a sports car for when I need speed and handling. I drive that like I stole it. However, I find myself driving the truck most of the time.
Enjoy!
