Hey guys bought a 92 f350 that has some reallyyy old crusty window tint on the rear window. Was wondering what the best possible way to attack this is ? I was gonna try aircraft paint stripper but thought id see what you guys know.
A heat gun and a razor blade should be your best bet. Heat up a corner until it gets soft enough to start peeling it back with the blade. Good luck, not exactly the funnest job.
Depending on how warm it is in your area I've been told to soak the window with a shampoo and water mix then stick a black garbage bag over it and let it sit in direct sunlight for about 20 minutes and it'll peel right off. The heat softens the tint and the moisture will loosen the adhesive. Did it on one of my old vehicles cause I got a ticket for it being too dark. Worked like a charm with minimal mess to clean up and no scraping.

that was my first thought. Got some of the film itself off. But not much of the adhesive and everything else. Went out and got aircraft paint remover. Ill see how that does tmw and post my results

yea i thought about that but read that its not very useful on old tint. Imma try aircraft paint thinner ill tell you guys how it goes tmw
Spray old tint down with canned spray glass cleaner with ammonia, close the windows, and let sit in the sun for a few hours. Pull old tint from windows, and finish up with razor and more ammonia based glass cleaner.
Several flat razor blades will get the plastic off, and 99.99% of the glue. Then use some isopropyl alcohol (it's in your bathroom) and a lint-free rag (like an old t-shirt) to get the rest of the glue off. The glass will then be ready for new tint.
I've tried all sorts if things to remove window tint over the years. What works best for me is a fabric steamer. Then I remove what is left with acetone.

Well guys im glad to inform you the aircraft paint remover worked magically. Tried a few of the other less toxic methods before trying it but it worked amazing. Sprayed the remover carefully onto the window over the tint. Then let it sit and soak in for about 20 minutes and bam. The tint just started peeling off. Adhesive and all in fairly large sheets. After a few minutes most of the tint was removed.
I took some tint off my truck when it was winter out And the truck was cold outside and warm inside (drove a little ways with heat on) and it literally pulled off in one sheet and no left over adhesive
