I've had my 2016 Ford F150 for about a month now and I notice that when in reverse, the rearview camera looks grainy and shadowy. I don't know if the license plate lights are making it glare or if it's just the camera. If it's the lights, are there covers I can get so the lights don't interfere with the camera?
What's it like in the daytime? The rear lights shouldn't have any affect in the daytime. If its still grainy, make sure the lens is clean. Otherwise go back to the dealer. Mine is not grainy at any time. Even when it's dirty. However, it does look shadowy when it has water on the lens.

It's fine in the daytime. It seems like my license plate lights make it glare. Even the brake lights make it a little grainy. The lens is clean. I had a 2015 Ford Escape and the rearview camera was awesome. I wonder if the light on the tailgate could be causing it. Not sure if it comes on when I'm in reverse though.
The license plate lights cause the glare at night. I have been trying to figure a cover that will cover the lights , still allow full illumination of the plate and not interfere with the tailgate. Oh and not look dorky.
If you think the tag lights are causing your issues, put some tape on them and see if it helps. Certainly, mine aren't sharp at night but what I get is fine for me. I can distinguish what's behind me at night. That's all that's necessary.
I don't think the lights are causing this. Much less light for the camera to capture at night, so I believe the system tries to amplify what's there. I don't think you're going to get much better unless you replace the whole system with something much more expen$ive.
Is there any data on the resolution of the camera itself? It does seem like the one that's there has fairly low resolution, but I don't have any specs on it. The resolution on our 4 year old Tacoma seems better.
I have a problem on my 2016 F 150 rear camera picking up the red tail and brake lights at night, so the only thing you see is red black top and grass. You can not distinguish between the grass and blacktop.Anyone have this issue?
