I have a vibration in my 2001 f250. At about 45 to 55 it vibrates. I hsve changed u joints in the rear drive shaft. Pulled it again tonight. U joints look good, no play. I am going to pull the front shaft and see if it makes a difference. I did notice some play on the rear shaft where it slides. Could this be causing the problem? Thanks for any help.
In 2WD the front driveshaft isn't supposed to be spinning unless your front hubs are locked. Therefore the front driveshaft shouldn't have anything to do with it. Make sure the hubs are unlocked and you've ruled out the front driveshaft.
I was chasing a vibration like this on my Excursion that was driving me nuts. Ended up having an out of balance driveshaft. I'd suggest bringing your driveshaft to a good driveline shop for balancing. Should only cost a few bucks to have it checked, which is cheaper than replacing parts.
I pulled the front drive shaft and drove the truck. It didn't seem to be there. I am not sure.
If it was it was a lot better.
I know that the front shaft shouldn't turn, but I know the lockouts are off.
The drive shaft is all rusty from N IL weather.
Don't rule out the rear shaft. I seem to be on a regular two year rotation with my front and rear driveshaft. My local machine shop knows me by name last time I had the rear shaft done they had to cut off and replace the rear spline and yoke. You can take yours apart and grease it and see if that's better. Just mark it before you take it apart. I am pretty sure it's keyed but better to be safe then sorry. That would be where I look.
