We seem to recall past postings regarding a delay in 2017 Super Duty orders being filled if the vehicle is ordered with the ADAPTIVE STEERING as an option vs. a higher priced version of the SuperDuty where the ADAPTIVE STEERING is standard. Does this hold true with those folks who are driving their 2017s or is this just a salesman's line to get us to upgrade to the higher priced vehicle vs. the XLT we ordered this past July? Does this ring true with any one else who's been waiting for a VIN on their vehicle?

Our salesperson, who is the fleet director at the dealership, did not try to get us to upgrade. All he did was read us the email from Ford saying we had to drop the adaptive steering (60A) to get the truck scheduled. When we questioned whether it was premanently unavailable or temporarily unavailable, he sent emails, called his Ford rep, checked the current order guide and based on his research he concluded that it is most likely a commodities issue so we decided to wait it out for a few weeks.
I think the are a couple of members here who have contacts at the manufacturing plant. Could one of you please reach out to your contact to get the low down on the adaptive steering in the XLTs. It would be greatly apprecited!
There were so many people ordering the adaptive steering in June, July and August that Ford elected to use all available units to serve these orders. Many ordering prior to then will probably be on indefinite hold and new orders will be built on an if-come basis.

I ordered my XLT with adaptive steering on labor day (Sept 5th).
I've had an upper trim super duty on order since April. My truck is still not arrived. It should be here next week "I've heard this before". let's say that patience is Bliss. Order what you want, not what the dealer tells you.
There are at times constraints on specific parts. I'm not familiar with one involving adaptive steering. I don't think it's just a line though, folks think we make all this extra money on a more expensive truck. While there is a higher profit margin, if we structure it the same, it's just more expensive. I always show folks the cheapest thing that does the job. Aside from being more likely to fit their budget, it also allows for more payment room for warranty and other useful/profitable things. Getting you to spend all your money on the truck would be a poor sales pitch.

Extreme patience! We can't order our fifth wheel until we know our truck is built as our current truck cannot tow it. It will take 6 months to get the fifth wheel built.
Exactly. Order what you want. It is your money and your pride and joy. I might even get lucky and have it here by Christmas. ETA of 7 Dec is too far away to count on. Someone with a new order may come in and Ford use my parts to make them happy.

Frantz, I think I am discovering more about the allocation of built orders from KTP. It resembles a bingo game. If all the items for a build are available that truck is scheduled. If any one item is missing that particular day that order is shuffled back in the pack until that item is available. But then, if another item has become un-available the order is again re-shuffled. I have been through several inquires through the sales/regional rep and now established 2 case numbers with Dearborn and it all comes back to availability of parts. So as I watch the VIN numbers grow to over 90K trucks and lots of trucks with all kinds of options showing up I can not figure any other reason those of us with early orders for a sight unseen vehicle have been forgotten about by the FoMoCo. If there were a reasonable other choice I would be gone in a heartbeat. There is no logical excuse for crapping over those of us who have been in line since mid April. And Frantz I do honor and respect your wisdom and dignity but the big blue oval has some prejudice against many of us here and I am sure elsewhere as well.
Rob - I agree there is something screwy with their system.. Mine's not as bad as yours, but I can't believe that I have some unique combo of options that is causing me to have a build date of 11/21 on an 8/13 order....

If I were the only one I would look toward the order or the spelling of my last name for answers. There are too many of us on the spread sheet who have been passed over. And it not isolated to this group, I guarantee.

Do you think a certain set of options are holding you and the other early orders up? Or do you think that Ford's computer system is just fouled up and skipped your order?
Why not go ahead and order another one with the identical options? Maybe it would go ahead and be built?
Where you every assigned Priority 1? I see quite a few guys here that got priority 1. In the past Priority 1 was reserved for those vehicles that got damaged in transit, etc but if Ford is handing them out too frequently then it's not really top priority any more but it still might get you a truck built.
I think this adaptive steering is going to be a nightmare , And be warned of updates and changes , recalls and problems down the line when the warranty is out. this technology is great on the drawing board and great for a demonstration in a parking lot on a brand new truck , but put 100K miles on it in the real world and it's going to be a very very expensive promblem that people will regret getting. Don't say nobody warned you, the expensive and newest options are not always the best . If you're leasing your new truck who cares , if you're the kind of person who buys a new expensive truck every couple years who cares, if your the kind a guy who buys his truck as an investment and is going to keep it for 15 years you're going to care for sure . Wait

If you wait for technology to perfect itself you would still be using a Canastota Wagon to climb Donner Pass. I'll take a chance on the new. Spent most of my life waiting until the new was passe. Inexpensive and a little more reliable, yes but new and exciting? That was two years ago. Now lets see " CD:\>dir Damn I hate coding dos.
"Mom, can't I get a new computer? superRobertduty has one, please, please, please!"
"No Robbie, my friend says the price is going to drop next summer and they will be so much faster."
"But Mommm, they even have them with color screens now! And they don't even make the TRS 80 anymore."
"I said no and I mean it. Now go outside and help your father unhitch the horses. He has been plowing all day and needs to come in to eat."
