Anyone else catch that bit of very biased news coverage tonight on NBC news about how Ford was ending production of the Excursion? According to NBC news the only reason people buy SUV are because they are "wasteful". This was confirmed by some moron from the Sierra Club. They claimed that Japanese SUV are more efficient. Models like the CR-V and the RAV-4. But they didn't bother mention that the Jap SUV can't tow anything worthwhile, nor did they get the opinions of anyone that likes SUV, or owns then because they are safer then the little tin cans the idiots down at the Sierra Club would like to see us drive. I really it hate when the mainstream media get some "expert" to validate their liberal notions, don't get both sides of the story, then try to pass off their liberal opinions as hard news (which is just about every night).
Have you caught the latest subaru forester ad on the tube? Talk about slanted! They basically are just saying that because theirs is smaller and quieter that those that drive them (subaru) are just better than everyone else. These people just don't get it. We drive larger vehicles because we want them. The makers produce them because they are wanted. A subaru forester isn't going to pull a 21 foot camping trailer anywhere! I don't drive an Excursion because I don't need one but if I did need one I don't need some better-than-thou, misinformed, liberal weany, save the earth, the sky is falling, tree hugging, can't we all just get along, limp wristed, bird faced little twit to tell me I can't. If they want to look down their collective nose at me....they'll be looking UP !
Their so-called "expert" also lumped the Ford Escape and Mazda Tribute twins into the Japanese camp. While the Mazda is a Japanese brand, isn't the Tribute built here in North America? My wife looked at me like I was some kind of nut when I was compelled to comment on that expert commentary.
The Excursion, beyond the poor marketing job done by Ford, is suffering from being the wrong vehicle at the wrong time. I compared the Suburban and the Excursion when they first came out and was very disappointed in the huge difference in curb weights between the two. The Excursion out-weighs a comparable Suburban by a minimum of a thousand pounds. Why?
I love the Excursion, but couldn't afford to operate one unless it was a PSD and can't afford the price of entry into that ballpark. There's no doubt that there is a market for this size of vehicle, so Ford needs to go back to the drawing board and design a replacement for the Excursion that is more responsible.

Are you sure that you were comparing equal frames, I.E. 3/4 ton vs a 3/4 ton, or diesel vs a diesel? Just seems a bit far fetched so say a 1000lbs swing in weight.
>>The Excursion, beyond the poor marketing job done by Ford, is suffering from being the wrong vehicle at the wrong time.
HUH?
> The Excursion out-weighs a comparable Suburban by a minimum of a thousand pounds. Why?
Check again. Mine out weighs it by well over 1000 lbs. Why? Well...I'll tell you what; you hop in a Suburban and I'll climb into my Excursion. We'll drive 40 mph directly at each other. Guess who's gonna walk away? I got my six kids and my wife in that truck, I'll take the weight. Another reason...well, I guess Ford decided that real trucks are made of steel underneath. Not plastic and tin.
>I love the Excursion, but couldn't afford to operate one unless it was a PSD and can't afford the price of entry into that ballpark.
I've always respected & defended the freedom a person enjoys by being able to express his opinion. In fact, I spent 14 years and two conflicts putting my "money where my mouth is". I just wished there were more who actually were qualified to make them. You obviously know NOTHING about the operational costs of the Excursion.
>There's no doubt that there is a market for this size of vehicle, so Ford needs to go back to the drawing board and design a replacement for the Excursion that is more responsible.
Another green-***, know-it-all liberal, I gather. More responsible? More responsible than what? You cannot comment first hand on fuel mileage, which would most likely be the defense of your position, so what are you saying? Responsible??? Most of the truck is recyclable, it is a LEV, it doesn't require too many variations in manufacturing (uses less energy to produce along side the SD trucks than by itself) nor does it require nearly as many wordly resources to build as a whole new design would. (what YOU want.) The Excursion shares so many parts with the (best selling) Super Duty pickup brethren that it is a logical AND pratical extension of the Super Duty line-up. Unfortunantly it was never marketed as such.
So...explain responsible. No wait...Don't...what's the point...
I get sick and tired of the liberal biased news. Though I didn't see the whole report, just the short blurb to advertise what would be on the news was liberalized enough that I wasn't interested in seeing the rest.
The NBC news report claimed that the Excursion was being canceled because of "poor engineering". Of course they didn't back this up with any proof. I guess to them, anything that requires gas is poor engineering. But then again, when your a bias, liberal news reporter you don't need proof. I remember when the Excursion came out, it was introduced by that pinhead from the Sierra Club (here in the California Bay area anyway). A week before Ford officially introduced it, that Mr. Pope a$%hole from the Sierra Club was making the rounds on all the talking head shows and was saying how unfair it was that such a vehicle was even being made. Of course when a liberal uses the word "fair", it's code for you shouldn't be allowed to....... (fill in the blank, any activity you enjoy doing that is allowed in a free society based on Capitalism).
So if Ford is canceling the Excursion because of poor engineering as NBC claims, then I guess Ford is going to have to cancel the Super Duty line of trucks as well since the Excursion is based on the Super Duty.
I was wondering what mialage you were getting with yours? I have always wanted one but had decided to wait untill they changed the body style and the used ones would be cheaper. I love my bronco but the extra room would be nice for towing etc.

I bank on 13.5 average. I regularly get 16 on the highway driving normal, sane speeds (but still above ). My normal combined average (last 10 fill-ups) is 13.9 - 14.2. My truck is just slightly modified, nothing major.
You can get a V10 LTD Excursion for 'bout $24K 'round these parts.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 25-Aug-02 AT 04:17 PM (EST)]wife says a four door would be nice but I hat to get rid of a truck that has me trained and really doesn't need a whole lot of work. But I am getting nervous about the 325,000 miles. Most importantly I havn't had a car payment since I bought the bronco.
