I lock mine when it snows for the first time and then unlock them when everything thaws. I notice a drop in MPG's and more noise when/if I crank the wheels all the way to the left or right (the binding people were referring too)
I also shift the truck all the time on the fly on the road, but I try to be sure I am going less than 60mph when I do.
I also lock the hubs once a month (I try) and drive to work and back and shift it in and out of 4wd to make sure nothing is wrong during the summer.
I have used the 4wd in the summer , but not very often. I have the electric locking rear differential so that tends to give me enough goose when I need it on the boat ramp.

IMHO, that electronic locking rear differential is the best thing since bread!
I have a 2000 F250 Crew Cab with electronic 4x4 that thanks to this forum I now know that the hub seals are bad. I can do the work myself, but need to know what parts I need. I know they are bad because the hubs will not hold vacuum.
