Check the throttle position sensor for smooth operation.

Or torque converter slippage aka shudder of the lockup clutch.

A4LD 4R44E's are infamous for it.
Try changing all 20 quarts of ATF through ATF cooler line. search for gentle flush. use only the Mobil 1 ATF synthetic expensive but lasts forever.
Or, it's blown gasket valve body>case. common problem in these.
Get the codes read, sometimes will pop a tranny code for these.
Does it stay in OD when it's shuddering?

Time for a really good strong cylinder carbon douche. Will be lots of it with all the misfire.
I ran 80 gallons of 2 year old ethanol free boat gas heavily dosed with marine 2 stroke carbon removal additives last year. Best the 4.0L has ran in years. Brought the power up, smooth running, far easier starting. Just like new, bump the key and she's running. So quiet I have to watch the gauges to be sure it's running.
The oil was black goo for 2 changes.

nah still runs great. only missed when climbing hill low rpm. A few stumbles a day.. but hard bangs... Was a good guess. Took it off my parts van. This van has 3 months to go then parting it out. Inspection sticker runs out. State won't inspect it again. rules got way strict.

Are you saying that the state is in effect denying you the use of your vehicle because of it's age, even though it may meet the emissions requirements for the year it was produced?

Sounds like 99f350 is saying that due to strict new emissions and safety testing in his state, his van will no longer pass safety and emissions testing without spending more $$$$s than it's worth to keep it on the road.

Wa. state is starting dyno dual drum testing here, so all AWD Aeros will now have a new test to pass. We used to have just OBD port testing for AWD with no errors codes and no safety testing. Just an in neutral idle and 2000 rpm tailpipe emissions test. Sounds like they plan on implementing all wheel dyno brake testing along with visual safety inspections. Single axle dyno emissions testing equipment has been in the state licensed and inspected shops here for years.

I'm glad to see the state implementing state law vehicle safety testing. We have so many unsafe old beater rigs on the roads here. Time for mandatory yearly truck safety examinations and testing. State scale sites here catch less than 5% of the dangerous trucks on the roads. I'm sick of seeing truck trailer brake and tire fires and trailer tires throwing cheap tire caps at 70 mph like a guillotine down the road.

Ok so I was wrong the coil was fine...lame mechanic...middle wire was bad even though it was 2 years old...or the silicone grease in there was causing problems...was black in the plug end. Seems I moved it around when changing the coil. lasted for a week..Anyway pulled one off the parts van and all is good it was getting bad going up hills.

Oh 96 is Right.. my emissions sticker is up end o may....Bye bye aero's We have new inspections that are going to put many vehicles out of order. Mine is going for parts. My nice 96 will be sold to a lucky buyer not for cheap though...So I have 3 96's if anyone is interested....The nice one will go for close to 10k...if you fix a couple of paint dingers you could enter it in car shows its that nice..its scary nice. The white one runs good now...blue one is for parts. All engines and trannies are good. Gonna get a 2008 f150 crew cab long bed 6.5 ft
