I just bought a 2001 F350 with the 7.3
The dealer didn't have any service records on the truck. So I have no idea when the tranny fluid and filter was changed last. A side note is that my tranny pan has a BD Power emblem on the side. The tranny shifts extremely aggressive especially between 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. What is everyone's opinion on changing the fluid and filter not knowing the last time it was done. Truck has 200,400 miles on it. Does anyone know about this BD Power emblem?
"What is everyone's opinion on changing the fluid and filter not knowing the last time it was done"...now and every 35-45K from here on. Sooner if you tow.
My X has 126,000 and it looks like the 100,000 service was done so I am spending $28 to send the transmission fluid to Blackstone for testing. I don't want to throw away perfectly good fluid....
PS- transmission fluid every 35-45k???What are you, made out of money?
No not made of money, hense the **** service. Plus dont like being stuck on the road side due to the stupidity of ignoring a vital part of my vehicle. 100 bux of fluid every year, year in a half or two is hell of alot cheaper than 5K trans, tow truck and rental. Read the manual I believe it says 60K on the fluid/filter.
The manual does not EVER recommend replacing the filter. If it is a pre-2008 the filter is lifetime and only needs to be replaced if the trans is rebuilt.
I heard flushing the transmission can sometimes cause more harm than good on a transmission that has high mileage and has not been serviced regularly. This true? Source was a guy at Jiffy lube when I had my f150...
I'm kinda in the same boat with my truck, dealer had nuttin for service records, just a carfax that showed one minor wreck. I'm going to change mine, and use the Motorcraft LV Gold Extreme or whatever it is the book says. I doubt that I'l flush it though, as I have no idea, or the equipment needed to do that. I figure if the filter is lifetime they aren't too concerned about sludge, so.....
With that sticker on there, and the stiff shifts, I'd say some aftermarket work has been done. Lots of youtube stuff about them, they claim to be able to handle 600HP! Adding the filter doesn't sound like a bad idea.
The manual does not EVER recommend replacing the filter. If it is a pre-2008 the filter is lifetime and only needs to be replaced if the trans is rebuilt.
Wish I knew that. cost me $700 to flush first than drop the pan to replace the filter.
