97 -2003 5.4 engine swap
I have a 2003 f 150 5.4 L is eighth digit of vin
268000 miles . I have a head gasket problem .
I have a 97 5.4 truck with broken frame only 100 k.
Can i swap motors with no problems?

Welcome to FTE.
I do not know the specific changes made between '97 and '03, but they are probably different enough that running the older motor with the new computer could be an issue. Note the power differences:
Ford 4.6L & 5.4L Specs | Ford Modular V-8
235 HP to 260 HP would be some changes in heads and cam I think. I know the 4.6 went to "Performance Improved" heads during this time, not sure if it's the same tweak with the 5.4.
Now this is a lousy answer but it bumps your post up so stand by.
