Anti-theft Devices??

A big problem with where I live is that your truck will get stolen and taken to the desert and beaten to death. Then they just leave it out there. I was wondering what kind of ideas you guys had to deter that. I thought maybe a kill switch for the coil or some kind of steering wheel lock. Let me know what you think, I know we have some smart people on here.

I will be adding a lock of sorts like we have on the Army trucks. Its a cable bolted to the truck and a padlock. You loop the cable through the steering wheel and lock it down do it cant turn. Of course a hack saw or bolt cutters will make short work of it.
I will do this but to the shifter, lock it in second gear. Might do a kill switch also.

if you have an aftermarket steering wheel, you could take the nut and wheel off. loud exhaust is one of my theft deterrents, its loud enough to wake me up...

Take the complete coil wire off, (coil to center of distributor). Set the battery up with QDS connectors and then pull the battery and take it in the house every evening.

X2 on the steering wheel cable lock. Install a "club" on the steering wheel. The more work they have to do to steal it, the better chances they will just skip it.

You can also lock the brake pedal down ward arm and gas pedal rod together with a wrap around cable.

How many thieves are that determined to carry a coil wire, battery and cable cutters. Doing all that is not conducive to stealing a truck quickly.

I just disconnect the coil wire from the coil, only takes a few seconds to lift the hood and do it.

hahaha...I did this when I left town for antelope season and when I got back I was getting frustrated when the damn thing wouldn't start. Then my brain kicked on, lol. Put the wire back on and she fired right up. Worked, I guess.

On another note, I wonder how many thieves carry a spare coil wire?

Several suggestions:
1) Make your hood lock so whatever you do under there is inaccessible to thieves.
2) Kill switches - interrupt the activating wire to your solenoid with a switch - brake light switches are great. I have seen them in various places, like behind the glovebox door so you have to open the glovebox to start the truck. Or, wire a relay on that wire so that if someone attempts to crank the starter without flipping a switch the horn honks. I have seen folks who replaced factory switches like light switches or dimmer switches and run the starter wire through the old switch. What thief wants to turn on the high beams while he is stealing the truck?
3) Dummy coil wire - get a replacement coil wire. Slit the insulation on your old one, remove an inch or two of core, then glue it back together - looks functional but won't let the truck start.
4) Alarms are cheap. Won't stop a pro but will probably stop a joyrider.
5) Knew of a guy who bent rebar into a U, and concreted it into his driveway. Welded another U of it onto his frame below the driver's door and used a length of welded HEAVY chain to chain his truck down. (Think it was stolen anyway)
Whatever you do will probably not stop someone who really wants it, sad to say. But it's easy to make it tough to steal by an amateur.
5) And there is always the favorite, a pound of C4 with a cellphone detonator. Oh, wait....can't do that.

A have the steering wheel club, and my brother-in-law taught me to install it with the lock facing down. Presumably so you can't use a slide hammer on it.

There are faster ways to defeat a steering wheel club.

For long term, I'll remove the rotor.

Short term? I will pop the coil wire at the dizzy and shove it among the others so it looks like it is seated.
