It's not a dumb question. In fact I was experimenting with the same idea and testing it with a big garage vac. (the blow side) This was when I was a kid and my parents were wondering what I was trying to vacuum out of the engine in the driveway!
What you are trying to do is a blow-through approach like turbochargers do. The carb. has to be reworked for blow-through applications. There's a lot of reworking, sealing, recalibrating, etc. and I think the limit is about 10lbs. boost.
Pick up the S-A design book on Holley carbs, they explain the mods needed for blow-through and draw-through turbos.
Thinking about it a little more, a regular fan can't compress air very well, maybe a couple pounds that's it. Then they just start to make funny noises as it cavitates. You need something with more positive displacement like a roots blower or a turbo.
Thanks for the input, I'll have to check this out more. The victum is going to be a beat up 360 if I end up testing this idea out... Gotta do something with all my junk before it turns to massive heaps of rust in my yard.
