I have a 2007 6.0 all of a sudden got semi hard steering driving straight down the road. I noticed it a little stiffer I replaced the hydro boost on account of fluid being under my carpet...still nothing so I got a new power steering pump from ford and it got a little better but can still feel the stiffness to it. Mercon 5 fluid is what I went back with its at the right level and don't believe there is any air in the line I drove it 60 miles after the pump change. It don't wander but if I turn the wheel it'll stay in that position until I turn it back. Any ideas??
Thanks for the reply. Steering wheel also will not return to center. I'm not ruling anything out. I could've sworn it was either of the 2 I already replaced. Hoping it's not the gear box but it is what it is at this point. I'm already to dedicated to this truck to turn back now
I had the same problem with the steering not coming back to center.
A friend suggested greasing the u-joints on the front axels, so I did.
It fixed the problem after about a week. I was skeptable at first as was
he. That was 2 years ago, and I keep them greased with no return
of the problem. Mine is an 07' btw.
