I have a 1980 F150, swapped from a 302 to a 300 by previous owner.
The oil pan was set up for a front sump pump and I switched it to a rear sump pump. I pulled a long dipstick tube from a different 300 straight 6 and there is no location on the block for it (behind the oil filter)
What can I do to fix this??
Any info would be greatly appreciated! Here's the oil pan switched out along with the oil pump and oil pick up tube.
Do you have the new pan mounted on the engine yet? If not, do you have any fab skills or know a shop around you that makes things? Do you think you or someone else could weld something on the pan so this piece will fit?
I would check the threads on this, a pipe thread may be close enough. Or a regular nut welded to a piece of pipe cut at a angle, welded or brazed to the side of the pan, so this dipstick could be used on your new pan.
I bet if you had a shop nearby, someone could help you work this out.
You are correct. I looked around but it seemed they didn't make one. I clicked on your link and looked harder and yes, you can see in the picture a port on the pan at the bottom of the list. And then if you click on some of the others, in the description they say "port in the pan" even though they do not show it in the picture.
That would be the best idea. And if they make them, that means there may be some yards that would have one, though they are not going to let you have a pan off a good engine, and I would not want to go pull one off a junk engine still in the truck.
