"PATS NO START":

2008 XL 5.4 "without chipped" keys. One of the lower priced work trucks. The icon for the pats flashes as soon as the key is in position 3. It will not start. Click it to position 3 - 30 times and the PATS icon light stays lit and the park light illuminates. It starts. I have new keys and they work whenever the icon stops blinking. I want to know more before going to my dealer for help.

Tilt wheel? Is the wheel tilted up or down? Try tilting it the opposite direction... my 99 Mustang had the same problem, turned out to be a wiring harness in the column would get pinched when the wheel was tilted up.

Thanks, for the input tfalk. It has been starting pretty good last few days. I don't get it though. The truck is what was call a "custom" in the '70's. No frills truck. The cylinder doesn't recognize the key. The park icon doe's not light up until the PAT's icon stops blinking. The digital data regarding the milage, mpg meter, trip meter, gallons per mile all change digits every time it gets confused about the key, etc. I don't think it's a pinched wire yet and it doesn't have tilt steering, or cruse control. It doesn't have the fuse's for anti-theft or the module for the chipped key under the steering column.
