Hey all, so some of you may remember I started doing an engine/trans/harness swap a few months ago. Well I'm finally at the point where I can try to start the truck! I'm having some issues getting it to turn over. I charged the batteries up to about 90-100%and when i turn the key everything turns on line normal but the key won't start.i think it's the neutral safety switch. Because of that I tried to jump the solenoid but when I do that, the voltage drops to only 10.3 volts across the whole system. Any ideas on what could be doing this? Thanks
Don't mean to come across as insulting but there is a lot of confusing wiring, relays and electrical stuff in general under the hoods of our trucks. Are you sure you're not jumping the glowplug relay instead of the starter solenoid?
If you are jumping the starter solenoid and all that's happening is a system voltage drop, I'd look for a loose connection to the starter or a problem with the starter itself.
I figured it out. turns out the battery charger was just misreading the power level. The truck has now started for the first time in 6 months! its a great day for me. Now to get started putting things together. heres a few pictures of how it sits today.
Interesting configuration you have on this truck, as Ford did not offer a dually extended cab 4X4 from the factory. Did you swap in an axle from a dually pickup or add spacers to the rear axle? I always thought Ford missed the boat by not offering this set up.
