starts longer when using wts light...?

my truck takes about 2 sec to start warm, or cold. if i leave the key on, the truck takes about three seconds to start. why is my truck doing this, it would seem that the glow system would help the truck start. am i loosing pressure somewhere by leaving the key on?

What do you mean "leave the key on"?.......for how long?......And if you have the key "on" (just before the "crank" mode?)......do you have stuff like the heater, radio, etc. also on?......

The first thing I would suspect would be that your batteries are getting a little weak. When you "have the key on", assumining all of your glow plugs are working properly, there is quite a drain on them from heating up 8 glow plugs. If the batteries are borderline, the amount of voltage left to run the starter, idm, pcm, etc. when turning to the 'start' position is just barely enough to start the engine.

Batteries can have enough oomph to turn the engine over but not to actually start it running. Have your batteries load tested to make sure.

one battery had 850cca and the other had 900cca, both connections were good... the exhaust smells strong like diesel, could leaving the key in the on position for about 30 to 60 sec be pushing fuel through a bad injector?
