Wondering if I could draw on your knowledge...... I purchased a 1986 F250 4x4 that is on propane. The decal says it came with a 5.8 liter. The truck does have a small block with a 4bbl intake and holley carb + propane mixer. Electronic ignition but no fuel injection hardware to be seen as would be on an '86. Is there a way to identify the motor and it's size?? could it be from an early 80's mustang or??? it is a ford 4 barrel intake manifold. I know that was not something that came with this truck. Are there any numbers on the block or heads that could identify?? Any info would be very appreciated! cheers...Steve
Front 2 intake manifold bolts are aproximately 7 1/2" apart on a 302, 9" on a 351w. 351w was available with a Holley 4 barrel on a Ford intake I think from 84-87.
Hey there nanaimobarz and welcome to FTE!
If you have your title, check the 8th digit, letter or number. From what I read, it's more than likely a 5.4 and it should be original. I doubt it if someone took a Mustang engine and converted it to LP.
They were offered from Ford though, in the H-D Truck lines.

As a means of quick identification between 302 and 351, just look at the distributor base. If the block steps up about an inch behind the distributor, it is a 351w. If the block is flush behind the distributor, it is a 302.
More than likely, what you have there is a 351w. You can check the drivers side valver cover too. SOmethimes there's a sticker there that says what the engine is. Mine is the same year/model, has the 4brl. intake and Holley just like yours. So it's most likely the 5.8, H.O. EFI was a higher class option in '86 and the big crossover to EFI didn't take place until '87.
