My truck has been sitting for the last six months since my stroke and now the ABS light is on when I start it up. I have not looked into it yet but was wondering if it might just be dirt on the sensor(s).
Does the light remain on? If so, it is disabling the system (hard Code). If it stays on and then goes out (Soft Code), it is notifying you there is an issue that needs attention.
The Module reports it's status to the PCM. So, any Scantool capable of retrieving codes on the Ford PWM system should be able to retrieve the codes. Ie: AutoEnginuity, Snap-On, OTC, Torque Pro, ForScan, etc.
It could be any number of things. Wheel Sensor, Module itself, VSS, etc.

Thanks for the reply. I do have AE so I will check the code(s). I was hoping that it might just be dirt as it has been sitting since April.
I had an ABS light problem for a while and found out that my AC compressor was dripping down the passenger front wheel well. Well as it turns out there is an ABS plug right there that was getting wet and causing it to short out. Something you might wanna check, good luck!
check the codes. when my abs light was staying on, turned out the sensor in the rear axle had gone bad (found that out from the code). popped a new one in and haven't had an issue in 2 years now.
These sensors are reacting to a toothed wheel that spins at the speed of the wheel or axle. Dirt, unless it contained a large amount of magnetic material cannot affect the ABS.
Almost every time I had a hub assembly go bad the abs light would come on and hint to me that I had a problem. Everytime I seen that light it was always a hub issue
